Apple TV or Smart TV?

Friday, March 14, 2014

I decided to buy a new TV for my room because I've been using my laptop for everything.

So there were two options, buying just a regular LED TV (which is around $100, $150 cheaper than a Smart TV) or buying a Smart TV. What I noticed is that most people use their Smart TV's like computers, and they want to be able to watch slideshows of their pictures and use USB ports and stuff but that really doesn't apply to me. You can also skype/check social media like Facebook and Twitter on a Smart TV but again, that doesn't really apply to what I want (I'd rather check my social media on my phone)
The main reason I want to use the TV is for Netflix, watching sports games like hockey and football, and youtube.

So I didn't really see the point of having a Smart TV, I've done my research and saw that A LOT of people have problems with the wifi connectivity on their TV's. I also read that some TV's don't connect with Macs, and since I have a macbook I was a little skeptical.

I decided to skip the purchase of a Smart TV and just bought a regular LED TV, bought an apple TV, and I'm going to get a Roku stick, which I've heard a lot of reviews about. The apple TV connects amazingly to my mac, I'm so in love, netflix works amazingly and I'm really happy with my purchase.

So obviously with the whole online TV thing you're not going to get the typical channels you get with cable, and you're going to have to pay subscription fees like the $8/month for Netflix, and Gamecenter for NHL, and the fees for Hulu Plus - but the way I see that it's all cheaper than paying like $80 a month for cable.
