How to do your own French Manicure at Home

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Doing your own french manicure at home takes a little practise, but once you've done it a couple times you'll completely master it and you'll probably never have to go to a salon again to get your nails done.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Nail File
  • A Brush to create the smile line
  • White Nail Polish (I use OPI Alpine Snow)
  • A base coat
  • A top coat
  • A glossy nude colour
  • Acetone
  • A little cup to put the acetone in
  • Acetone free nail polish remover
  • Cotton ball or pad
Note, if you want to you can use the white stickies to help you create a nice white tip - just follow all the prep instructions I have apart from the acetone and brush part and you should be golden.

PROCESS

First thing you want to do is clip, file and buff your nails to whatever shape you desire (I personally like filing mine square, so that is just filing them in straight across, horizontally)

Next thing you want to do is make sure your nails are free of products (lotions, nail polish, etc), so I like to wash my hands first and then soak some acetone-free nail polish remover onto a cotton pad and just go over my nails.

Then you want to take the base coat and apply it like from the halfway point of your nails to the tips. Wait for it to dry.

Then you want to go over the tips with the white nail polish in even layers. It doesn't have to be perfect, you just want to get a nice even layer so it dries evenly. By the time you finish all ten nails they should be dry enough to go over again with the white.
So you want to have two layers of the white nail polish. Wait for the white nail polish to dry completely! So watch some TV or do something for around 15 minutes to occupy yourself.

You then want take the brush and dip it in acetone, lightly dab it on a cotton pad and just clean up the line. One tip is to try to make it match the smiley line on your nails for a natural look.

After that, you want to take the nude colour and go over it on the base of your nails (make sure not to get it on the white tips). Wait for that to dry.

And then finally you can go over your nails with a top coat! You can do one or two coats, whatever you desire. Just make sure that you coat the edges of your nails.

And Voila, you have an at home french manicure!
